You Can Hear The Voice of God by Steve Sampson

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book on how to hear from God.  Each chapter has been an eye opener for things that I have been searching to understand in my walk with God.  As I read each chapter I could hear the Holy Spirit confirming and showing me things that I have experienced as a believer.  I highly recommend this book to the person who is trying to learn the voice of God, to the seasoned believer who just wants to be reminded that they are in the will of God concerning decisions and choices they make about their life.  Of all the books I have come across this is a great book to read.  This book was provided free of charge through Chosen Books.

Waiting for Morning by Karen Kingsbury

This book has to be one of the best touching books I have read in a long time.  It screamed to me and made my emotions cringe.  I felt sadness, I felt love and I felt hate!  I also felt the urge and need for forgiveness. “A pit formed in her stomach and in that instant, she knew.”  Who could ever imagine such horrific tragedy taking place in their life?  I too have been in love and married my high school sweet heart.  No one can say what they would do in a life changing event such as this.   It is one thing to lose a love one but another thing to let hatred control your life to the point of utter exhaustion.  It is also hard to understand why our Lord and Savior would allow such tragedies to take place.

This is a story of a woman who has been broken down to the core of her very existence and in this process she has lost her world and everything in the world that she believe to be true wherein her faith rested.  It has now been tested.  I have never known anyone to hate the very essence of their existence.  Karen Kingsbury has shown that through forgiveness, therein lies the ultimate peace that our heavenly father promises us. In our heavenly father lies everything in this life that we need, in every situation he is always there for us, even when we can’t see clearly and we hate every thing around us.  Although it has been Matt’s job to help Hannah he has shown every emotion and feeling of a true friend in being there for Hannah and then Jenny.  Through this story several individuals were lead to know Christ and have a closer walk with him.  There is no greater joy than a life that is centered on Christ.  May the grace of God continue to keep each of us day by day that we may walk in love as he is love?

Living Close to God By Gene Edwards

Living Close to God
When You’re Not Good At It by Gene Edwards

Living Close to God is one man’s account of finding the Lord for himself.  This is a great book that will help the new born again believer learn to walk and seek the Lord.  Several times the author relayed the message that he was not spiritual by any means and in fact was spiritually dull.  This book, Living Close to God, guides you along a path of several ways to seek the Lord through out your day. It is clear from reading this book that Christian believers make it seem impossible to find God and understand his word.  God is not complex and if we would take the time and be still before him we too can hear him.

In reading this book I tried to do the Psalm 23 and still my mind.  It didn’t work for me but what I heard the Lord say was on page 36.  “In Quietness and Waiting.”  As I read this in my office at work, I heard in my spirit, “that’s it.”  I said huh?  What?  I re-read what I had just read to see what had just happened and what he had said to me and it was “In Quietness and Waiting” that is where he is and that is where I will find him.  Gene Edwards gave several examples to seeking the Lord and putting up reminders so the believer can see and remember to take a few seconds to pray.  Believers often leave the Lord at home and never remember to take him with them through out their day or they forget him at home and when they get to work the remember him but then leave him at work.  God should be apart of our entire day and Gene Edwards has showed us a few examples of how we can do just that!

At the end of the book is a seven week study guide.  This study guide can be used within a book club or as a way of helping the believer or the new Christian find a consistent walk with Christ!

Every Woman's Battle by Shannon Ethridge

Proverbial Woman

If a book does not catch me with the synopsis on the back, it must intrigue me in some way upon reading the first paragraph of the book.  It’s one thing to tell me how to be a woman of God, but to go in dept and give me examples of the things that we do as women that causes us to think if its right or wrong is good.  This book has caused me to look at things I have done in my own marriage, past and present, and see that I was behaving in ways that was not pleasing to God.  I have had so many revelations upon reading this book that I thank God for stumbling upon it.  I think twice when it comes to my reactions towards my husband.  I want to be the woman that God has called me to be.  For a better description I want to be that proverbial woman in the book of Proverbs.

God created marriage as a beautiful thing.  We are to be help meets to one another and love each other unconditionally.  I have seen that I have always been a selfish person through the examples and referenced scriptures in this book.  I believe I am now on my way to being a proverbial woman.  This book has truly blessed my marriage.  The workbook section at the end of the book is an added bonus!!!

This book would be an awesome gift for any woman getting married.  I think that young girls need to be exposed to this book as well as a type of family education program.  We are supposed to train our young people to be men and women of God, why not start early?    The world does not care how old they are nor should we mind this aspect when it comes to teaching spiritual things.  I recommend this book to any woman who wants to draw near to the Lord.  I highly recommend this book for any marriage counseling programs and any woman that is engaged!
